In a Memorial Day that included an event-cancelling downpour and a blown motorcade tire on the interstate, President Barack Obama on Monday met with families of veterans and service members at the recently-opened Hines Fisher House. The President spent about 30 minutes meeting with veterans and getting a tour of the new veterans' home, which services the Hines Veterans Affairs hospital. The new facility officially opened last Friday. Earlier, torrential rain, including lightning, thunder and wind, forced Obama to cut short a Memorial Day observance at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. Instead, he briefly visited with service families who had crowded onto buses to escape the storm.
