Jada Pinkett Smith isn’t letting her battle with hair loss stop her from sharing a beautiful, glowing, makeup-free video.

The actress and Red table discussion the host recently took instagram to share a video showing off her gorgeous complexion and revealed a new update in her hair loss journey. The 50-year-old man suffers from autoimmune disease alopecia and showed off the new bare patches she’s recently noticed on her scalp.

“Now at this point I can only laugh,” Pinkett Smith said, running her finger over a bald line along the center of her scalp. “You all know I struggled with alopecia and all of a sudden one day look at this line here. Look at this.”

With a chuckle, Pinkett Smith continued, “So it just came out like that and it’s going to be a little harder for me to hide. So I thought I’d share it just so you don’t ask questions. Questions.

Alopecia is a condition in which the body attacks its own hair follicles. “Your body’s natural defenses don’t recognize your hair as one of the good ones, so your immune system attacks it,” says Adam Friedman, MDassociate professor and chair of dermatology at George Washington University, in a previous interview with Prevention.

Although hair loss is quite common, it can damage a person’s confidence, Studies show. That’s why we applaud Pinkett Smith for her upbeat attitude and confidence in her struggles with hair loss. Rather than getting excited over the new lines along her scalp, the actress chose to focus on a more positive note. “You know mom is going to put some rhinestones on it. I’m going to make myself a little crown. That’s what mom is going to do,” Pinkett Smith said.

She even wrote about her relationship to the condition in her caption, saying, “Mom’s gonna have to shoot it on the scalp so no one thinks she’s had brain surgery or something. Me and this alopecia are going to be friends… full stop!”.

The star opened up about her hair loss struggles for the first time in a 2018 episode from Red round table. “It was terrifying when it started,” Pinkett Smith said. “I was in the shower one day and I only had a handful of hair in my hands and I was just like, oh my god, am I going bald?”

Last July, Pinkett Smith also made the decision to go bald after being inspired by her daughter, Willow Smith, and shared a selfie with her new look to instagram. “Willow made me do it because it was time to let go, BUT… my 50s are about to be divinely lit with this shed.”

We think so too and love that she celebrates her natural beauty. We can’t wait to see what selfies and videos the star shares next!
