If you’re tired of going on and off diets and looking to feel better, have more energy, and improve your overall health while losing weight, join this virtual seminar by Michael Simpson, MD, Bariatrician certified, as he discusses the latest information on what successful weight loss patients are doing to not only lose weight, but keep it off.

FEBRUARY 26, 9 a.m. Rogers Lakewood Park, 5501 N. Campbell St., Valparaiso. Don’t let the weather keep you indoors. Take on this challenging new 5K cross-country style course through the Rogers Lakewood Park property. Dress appropriately for cold conditions and enjoy hot chocolate and other treats at the end.

IN PROGRESS. Portage Township YMCA, 3100 Willowcreek Road, Portage. 219.762.9622. Stay active with this indoor sport during the winter. You can book a court up to seven days in advance. The courts are available in increments of one hour per person. There are three courts and balls, racquets and goggles are also available at the visitor center.

IN COURSE, 6 p.m.-6.40 p.m., Wednesdays. Fitness Pointe, 9950 Calumet Avenue, Munster. 219.924.5348. This is a non-impact aerobics class using water equipment such as noodles, buoyancy belts and resistance armbands. Buoyancy belts are provided. No swimming skills required.

ON-GOING, 9-9:45 a.m. Mondays, Valparaiso Family YMCA, 1201 Cumberland Crossing Drive, Valparaiso. 219.462.4185. Learn the basics of resistance training using the Pilates Reformer.

ON-GOING, 4 a.m. to 11 p.m., Wednesdays, YMCA of Schererville, 221 US 41, Suite A, Schererville. 219.661.7031. This fun sport is easy to learn and practice. Three courts are available for adults 18 and over.

ON-GOING, 10-10:50 a.m., Saturdays, GRIT Fitness Schererville, 2300 Cline Ave, Schererville. 219.864.8100. With a focus on the entire torso and arms, this class is not only a great upper body builder, but also a fantastic overall cardiovascular calorie burner. Short sequences of step-by-step choreography are interspersed throughout the hour to give the upper body moments of rest after tiring strength work. This is a non-stop class that leaves you sweaty and elated.
